I realized recently that Kermit the Frog and Sesame Street have both been two major influences in my life.

Kermit the Frog taught me that it is not easy being green. However, I am not green, but I understand what he means. Sesame Street taught me about the words "near" and "far." These are lessons that have remained with me throughout my life. At least they have remained throughout the life I have had so far.

As opposed to the lessons that I have learned from Kermit the Frog and Sesame Street, I learned nothing from Mister Rogers that will help me in the future. Well, wait, I am wrong. I learned how to share from Mister Rogers. I guess I should share what I did not do during my summer vacation.

Some people go places during summer vacation. I don't. Well, I didn't. I have gone places, but this article is not about what I have done prior years. This article is about what I have not done this year. This year, I did not go anywhere. My parents went to Massachusetts and to Maine. I didn't. My older brother went to Woodstock. I didn't. The air conditioning at my house was too appealing to go any of these places.

Some people enjoy visiting the beach for the day. I hate the beach. I hate it with a passion. I especially hate it during the summer, when there are hundreds upon hundreds of people there. It is disgusting. Why would I swim in the ocean after five thousand children were in it urinating? The beach was obviously the place for me to stay away from.

I did go to work. That was fun enough for me. I did have summer session at Montgomery County Community College in Pennsylvania. That was about the most fun I had.

Oh, I did not finish the epic novel I was writing. I did not clean my room. I did not go outside much. I was too afraid that I would burn my fair skin. I did not take a shower once a week -- I took them every day.

I guess many of you are wondering what I did do. I did squat. I did nothing productive. I did not do much at all. But, isn't that what summer is? Summer is when I do not have to get up at five o'clock in the morning. Summer is the time that I do nothing. I did that. Nothing. I did not produce a damn thing. Man, this was a great summer.

Matthew J. Heayn has written one article for Swingmachine already. This is his second. He does not know what Sesame Street and/or Kermit the Frog have to do with his summer vacation, but they ended up in his article anyway. If Matthew J. Heayn were a vegetable, he would be spam.
