Ketchup Armageddon
by Nicholas Wolfe
(ketchup, napkin, tomato, pickle)
Artist's Statement:
Today, a thriving civilisation...tomorrow,
eradication. The tomato (genus Solanum, Linnaeus,
1753) itself, long a cultural and gustatorial taboo,
identifies the questions surrounding the present state
of affairs in the Middle East (and, indeed, in all
war). The only thing visible to the naked eye is the
antebellum (represented by the whole tomato) versus
the postwar aftermath (ketchup). The napkin represents
the instrument of mass destruction bridging the two
conditions. With this, we may see the fragility of
life 'twixt wind and water; 'twixt tomato and
anti-tomato.
